April Wrap-Up // Book Haul // PARIS //

monthly wrapup.png

… I’m back!! And I’ve missed you all!!

I’ve been visiting France, and while I absolutely loved it, I am definitely glad to be home. I’m also really happy to catch up on some blog reading!! I just didn’t have time while i was gone…

This wrap-up is super late (is that really surprising, though?) AND I CANNOT BELIEVE IT’S ALREADY MAY. The end of April marks my second monthiversary (!!!) and hopefully the end of the freezing cold weather we’ve been having lately.

But… I’m always cold. It’s actually like 70* here.

  • I made a bookstagram account!! (I also had the brilliant idea to do so RIGHT BEFORE LEAVING THE COUNTRY … and haven’t done anything with it yet…)
  • I am officially annoyed at Twitter. It has a terrible algorithm, and also it keeps holding me captive when I should be reading?!? What’s with that?!?
  • I tweeted my childhood favorite author (Mary Pope Osborne) to tell her how much her books mean to me, and she didn’t respond, but she liked it!! So she saw!! It’s always been a dream of mine to meet her and tell her she changed my life.
  • I spent more time blog hopping, and that was really fun!!

I acquired a TON of books this month, and I am in heaven.

I screamed when I got these ARCs. See any you’re looking forward to?

I also read a bunch of digital/physical library books. AND DO YOU SEE THAT NEW FRANCES HARDINGE BOOK. After this one, I will have only not read one of her published books. *sobs*

{This month I read:}

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor {4.5 Stars}

The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye {2.5 Stars}

The One Memory of Flora Banks by Emily Barr {2.5 Stars}

Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton {3.5 Stars}

Midnight at the Electric by Jodi Lynn Anderson {4.5 Stars, review coming soon!}

Long May She Reign by Rhiannon Thomas {4.5 Stars}

In the Shadow of Blackbirds by Cat Winters {5 Stars, review coming soon!}

A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi {4 Stars}

Alex and Eliza by Melissa de la Cruz {1.5 Stars -DNF}

Slasher Girls and Monster Boys (YA Anthology) {no rating}

The Only Pirate at the Party by Lindsey Stirling {4 Stars – this was a reread, so fun!}

Love and Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch {4 Stars, review (maybe?) coming soon}

I feel like I had a pretty good reading month!! I conquered a mean reading slump that ruined most of the middle of the month, and I read a few really, really good books!! (My average rating for this month was still like 3.5 stars, but shhh.)

{Bookish Goals for May:}

  • Read 15 books. (I’m slipping on my reading challenge!! I’m only two books ahead!! I need to be TEN books ahead!!
  • Blog more consistently. I had a terrible reading slump for a while, and that caused me to run out of books to review!!Β  (also I am super lazy procrastinate like crazy)
  • Find some more book blogs to read/follow!! On that note, can you pleeease tell me which are your favorites? And make sure to link to yours so I can make sure to read it? I need help!!
  • Write some more!! I haven’t really talked about it yet, but I am a writer!! (I am also a procrastinator. I am also very lazy.)

  1. You’re able to read so many books a month! Good for you! I didn’t read near as many, but I’m a slow reader. πŸ™‚

    What were your thoughts on Alex and Eliza? Must not be good if you DNFed…I was so excited about the concept, but I’m not reading many good reviews, sadly.

    1. I just thought it was extremely amateur and awkward. The writing was extreeemely dry, with absolutely no showing, and the characters were flat. The whole book (what I read, i guess) was just so bland!! I was very disappointed, because I loved the author’s Something in Between!

  2. LENNA, I’M SO GLAD YOU’RE BACK I MISSED YOU SO MUCH. As you know, my April was absolutely ridiculous, but it’s May now so we’re all good! ALSO HOW IN THE HECK DID YOU GET ALL THOSE REVIEW COPIES???? You’re a wizard aren’t you. Yeah, you probably are, because you also went to fracken Paris. I want to go to Paris. I have a friend going to Norway in June for a month to visit her friend there and I’m like, excuse me why are you not taking me with you? I am a sad plum. I need more traveling in my life. Best place I’ve ever been to is Alaska. I went to Jamaica and Haiti but I don’t really like the heat. Alaska was the best place ever I’m moving away and never coming back bye πŸ˜›

      Hopefully May is better!! I’m optimistic xD
      My local bookstore gives them to me!! I am spoiled rotten, but I’m not complaining!! xD Seriously though, it’s like my favorite thing ever.
      NORWAY?? I don’t even know your friend and I’m jealous too!! I think Alaska would be awesome!! Except maybe too cold?? Because I am like an eighty year old grandma who’s always FREEZING. But it would definitely be pretty!! Jamaica and Haiti are cool too, though!! I want to travel more. France is the first place I’ve “really” been to. Someday!!

  3. OMG that’s so cool Mary Pope Osborne liked your Tweet! Her Magic Tree House series was definitely one of my favorite series when I was younger as well. πŸ™‚ It sounds like you read some great books this month and I can’t wait to read your reviews for them. Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous recap! ❀

    1. I did!! It was absolutely amazing!! That’s cool you’re from France – someday I want to live there. I am from the Southwestern part of the US, so very, very different from France xD.
      I hope you like Strange the Dreamer!! I thought it was amazing!
      Thank you so much! You too!
