My Most Anticipated Reads of 2017

This year is all about FANTASY and PRETTY COVERS which are two of my very very favorite things. So. I have compiled a list of my most anticipated reads for 2017.

I am looking forward to a ton of books this year, but these are my top anticipated releases by far.

March:

Hunted
This cover is so enchanting. What is she looking at? Her cape is so pretty!! I want!!

Hunted by Megan Spooner

Release Date: March 14, 2017

Beauty knows the Beast’s forest in her bones—and in her blood. Though she grew up with the city’s highest aristocrats, far from her father’s old lodge, she knows that the forest holds secrets and that her father is the only hunter who’s ever come close to discovering them.

So when her father loses his fortune and moves Yeva and her sisters back to the outskirts of town, Yeva is secretly relieved. Out in the wilderness, there’s no pressure to make idle chatter with vapid baronessas…or to submit to marrying a wealthy gentleman. But Yeva’s father’s misfortune may have cost him his mind, and when he goes missing in the woods, Yeva sets her sights on one prey: the creature he’d been obsessively tracking just before his disappearance.

Deaf to her sisters’ protests, Yeva hunts this strange Beast back into his own territory—a cursed valley, a ruined castle, and a world of creatures that Yeva’s only heard about in fairy tales. A world that can bring her ruin or salvation. Who will survive: the Beauty, or the Beast?

THIS WILL BE AMAZING. Because fairy tale retelling. Beauty and the Beast retelling(!!!) Russian folklore(!!!) I can’t wait!! Plus I’ve heard good things about this book already and I WILL READ IT.

Strange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer, #1)
Okay, the cover is super pretty, but I’m mostly obsessed with this LOVELY TITLE.

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

Release Date: March 28

Strange the Dreamer is the story of:

the aftermath of a war between gods and men
a mysterious city stripped of its name
a mythic hero with blood on his hands
a young librarian with a singular dream
a girl every bit as perilous as she is imperiled
alchemy and blood candy, nightmares and godspawn, moths and monsters, friendship and treachery, love and carnage.

UM. I CAN’T BREATHE. A mysterious city?? Without a name?? A probably evil antihero mythic hero with blod on his hands?? BLOOD CANDY and NIGHTMARES?!?!? *screams*
Also, I am absolutely insane for not having read Laini Taylor before, so IT SHALL BE AMENDED.
A Crown of Wishes (The Star-Touched Queen, #2)
WHAT IS WITH THE COVERS IN THIS SERIES. UGH. HONESTLY. SO SWOONY.

A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi.

Release Date: March 28

Gauri, the princess of Bharata, has been taken as a prisoner of war by her kingdom’s enemies. Faced with a future of exile and scorn, Gauri has nothing left to lose. Hope unexpectedly comes in the form of Vikram, the cunning prince of a neighboring land and her sworn enemy kingdom. Unsatisfied with becoming a mere puppet king, Vikram offers Gauri a chance to win back her kingdom in exchange for her battle prowess. Together, they’ll have to set aside their differences and team up to win the Tournament of Wishes—a competition held in a mythical city where the Lord of Wealth promises a wish to the victor.

Reaching the tournament is just the beginning. Once they arrive, danger takes on new shapes: poisonous courtesans and mischievous story birds, a feast of fears and twisted fairy revels.

Every which way they turn new trials will test their wit and strength. But what Gauri and Vikram will soon discover is that there’s nothing more dangerous than what they most desire.

I know, I know. I didn’t love The Star-Touched Queen but I really liked it!! And everyone is saying this one’s even better!! And somehow the cover is prettier even though that shouldn’t be possible. Plus that title is sooo unbelievably pretty. Aesthetics, people, aesthetics!! I’m not crazy!!

May:

Flame in the Mist (Flame in the Mist, #1)
I actually gasped when I saw this cover. DO YOU SEE THIS COVER.

Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh

Dressed as a peasant boy, Mariko sets out to infiltrate the ranks of the Black Clan, determined to track down the person responsible for the target on her back. But she’s quickly captured and taken to the Black Clan’s secret hideout, where she meets their leader, the rebel ronin Takeda Ranmaru, and his second-in-command, his best friend Okami. Still believing her to be a boy, Ranmaru and Okami eventually warm to Mariko, impressed by her intellect and ingenuity. As Mariko gets closer to the Black Clan, she uncovers a dark history of secrets, of betrayal and murder, which will force her to question everything she’s ever known.

I will read this because Mulan. And Renee Ahdieh’s writing is SO pretty. And obviously we don’t even have to mention this cover. *sighs dreamily*

June:

While their stories spans thousands of miles and multiple generations, Lenore, Catherine, and Adri’s fates are entwined in ways both heartbreaking and hopeful.

OBVIOUSLY I will read this because Jodi Lynn Anderson(!!!!!!!) Even though the cover is heartbreakingly hideous disappointing. But the title is intriguing, so that’s something at least. But still. DO YOU HEAR ME SCREAMING IN EXCITEMENT.
Now I Rise (The Conqueror's Saga, #2)
Okay, this is getting ridiculous. HOW can anything be so BEAUTIFUL and still be real?!?

Now I Rise by Kiersten White

Release Date: June 27

Mehmed wants control of the city, and Radu has earned an unwanted place as a double-crossing spy behind enemy lines. Radu longs for his sister’s fierce confidence—but for the first time in his life, he rejects her unexpected plea for help. As nations fall around them, the Dracul siblings must decide: what will they sacrifice to fulfill their destinies? Empires will topple, thrones will be won . . . and souls will be lost.

I’m not sure why I need a reason to read this because And I Darken was phenomenal, but the sheer miracle of me not having lost interest in this sequel after almost a year would be it.

July:

CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW STUNNING THIS WILL BE IN REAL LIFE.

Fans of Holly Black and Leigh Bardugo will be bewitched by Lana Popovic’s debut YA fantasy novel about a bargain that binds the fates—and hearts—of twin sisters to a force larger than life.

Iris sees flowers as fractals and turns her kaleidoscope visions into glasswork, while Malina interprets moods as music. But their mother has strict rules to keep their gifts a secret, even in their secluded sea-side town. Iris and Malina are not allowed to share their magic with anyone, and above all, they are forbidden from falling in love.

But when their mother is mysteriously attacked, the sisters will have to unearth the truth behind the quiet lives their mother has built for them. They will discover a wicked curse that haunts their family line—but will they find that the very magic that bonds them together is destined to tear them apart forever?

Wicked Like a Wildfire is the first in a two-book series. Readers will be rapt with anticipation for the sequel.

I’m not even going to try to make up an excuse for this one. I’m reading it for the cover and title and I’m not even embarrassed. But hey, the synopsis looks pretty cool too!!!
